In From the Cold!

Hooray! The label and binding are finished! Nothing better than finishing the binding on a quilt. Except snuggling under it on a cold winter night.

This quilt started off as a delicious little jelly roll that I just had to have. I had been wanting to make a Jelly Roll Race 1600 quilt for a while and this was it. A perfect match. Piecing it was quick in just one afternoon. Another afternoon to do the mitred border. A fun quick quilt.

Finished off with a label.

Embroidered little mittens to match the backing fabric.

Oh, and did I mention that I quilted it myself. I'm still in shock when I look at it!

My first try at long arm quilting. I was excited and so sew nervous! And, oh my goodness it was sew much fun! It was such an amazing feeling to be able to long arm quilt my own quilt.

I used a pantogragh from the back of the machine. A very neat process of using a laser to follow a pattern while quilting it on the front. A definite must to try if you haven't already. I rented the machine at the new Sparrow Studioz here in Calgary.

Happy Quilting,
Angelica

Just In Time For Valentines Day!

I finished this adorable wall hanging just in time for Valentines Day! I just love the colours, so bright and fun! I spotted this cute little kit at a local quilt shop and had to make it. It was just the thing to do during this cold spell we have been having. Wow, has it been cold. This was also a nice break from working on the big quilts I always seem to be working on.

I couldn't decide whether to machine free motion quilt or hand quilt it. I finally decided to try hand quilting. I thought it would be easy! However, I have very little experience in hand quilting so I probably took a lot longer to quilt this small wall hanging than more experienced hand quilters' would have.

I found out that making the stitches look even and pretty on top is easy. The hard part is making them look just as nice on the back side. Yes, I ripped out a lot of stitches until I finally figured out a good rocking motion that worked. Not all the stitches are perfect but it's finished and I like it.

Ta da! I just love the way it turned out. I almost forgot to mention that the heart is actually a pocket. Maybe on Valentines Day there will be a little something in there from my Valentine! Hint hint! It's so bright and red! Oh, how I love RED!

Speaking of red . . . . everything I have seems to be either red or pink. After doing this red Valentine wall hanging I now want to make a red and white quilt. Maybe a log cabin quilt. I have always wanted to make one of those.

I hung my finished little lovely on the door of my future sewing room! Another project in the works! Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Happy quilting,
Angelica
